Community AIDS Resources, Education & Support (CARES) is the only
agency in Mobile, Baldwin, Clarke, Conecuh, Escambia, Monroe, and
Washington counties solely dedicated to providing medical and social
service support, as well as educational services, for those affected
by HIV/AIDS. CARES coordinates a variety of resources to assist
everyone affected by this epidemic. Our agency also work aggressively
to provide prevention education to the entire area in our efforts to
stop the spread of this virus.
CARES was founded in 1987 by a small group of Mobilians who recognized
the need for resources for people living with AIDS. In 1989 a three
year start-up grant from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation provided
for the hiring of professional staff and paid operating
expenses.
In
each of the next eight years, additional funding programs and services
were developed to better serve the community.

CARES is the lead AIDS Service Organization in Southwest Alabama.
CARES is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors and is recongized
as a 501 (c) (3) not-for-profit organization. In April of 1995 CARES
expanded its service area to include the seven southwest counties of
Mobile, Baldwin, Escambia, Clark, Conecuh, Monroe and
Washington.
As the AIDS epidemic expands, the demand for additional services
grows. Functioning as a regional access point for support services and
information, CARES is recognized as a vital community resource to meet
this demand.
With your support, CARES will continue to fill this role
.
. . until
AIDS is no more!
